Massimiliano Pagliara shares a favourite album
A track a day keeps the bad vibes away.
With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite album or a track for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. An album a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.
Next in line is Massimiliano Pagliara. Our beloved Berlin-based Italian DJ and producer shares with us Jeremy Shaw’s hypnotic soundtrack to his acclaimed film installation “Variation FQ”, starring legendary voguer Leiomy Maldonado, which was released on vinyl by The Vinyl Factory in 2015.
“I bought this record at Phonica Records which is inside The Store X here in Berlin. My dear friend and store manager Luigi Di Venere was working that day, and I asked him to show me some new- ‘non-clubby’ records. He handed this one over to me. He knows what kind of music I like, and I liked this track instantly. It had just the kind of mood I was looking for. The melancholic, repetitive piano chords reminded me a lot of ‘Gymnopedies’ by Erik Satie. Its structure is soothing and hypnotic—so much so that you can listen to the track on repeat without ever getting tired of it,” says Massimiliano Pagliara.
“It’s been one my favourite tunes since that day, perfect for ‘cosmic’ moments as well as my home workouts and ballet routines. I’d say it’s definitely helped me to find some inner balance, particularly at a time when so much is in flux. I have known Jeremy Shaw primarily as a visual artist, but one can sense that he’s no stranger to music production and matters of sound. In fact, ‘Variation FQ’ is the soundtrack to his wonderful eponymous film—worth watching if you can! Highly recommended, especially during these cold and lonely days.”
