The last time we heard from Favored Nations was last summer, when they dropped a superb second called “Amazon” EP on Jupiter Clique. Now, the Australia/California three-piece outfit, comprised of Adelaide-based house producer James Curd, Surhan Sidhu, touring bass and guitar player for Empire of the Sun, and vocalist Morgan Phalen, who’s currently based in Stockholm, are finally gearing up to release their debut album, entitled “The Great Unknown”. The 18-track record is said to be an “epic amalgam of sunlit pop that brings to mind the solar-powered elements that emerged in the ’60s.”
Our first taste from the forthcoming album comes in the form of “Always”, a groove-filled summery tune with funky guitar licks and sunny melodies. We’d expect nothing less from Favored Nations. The album also includes the band’s biggest hit to date “The Setup” that was featured on Grand Theft Auto V’s soundtrack.
Favored Nations’ “The Great Unknown” will drop on October 2 via Antler Records.
