Buffy Sainte-Marie: “Poppies (Vito & Druzzi Rework)”
Brooklyn-based house duo Vito & Druzzi, aka The Rapture’s Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel “Druzzi” Andruzzi, continues to churn out quality edits, this time with this excellent rework of “Poppies” by the legendary folk singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie. The original track is taken from her sixth album “Illuminations”, which was released in 1969. It’s yours for free.
Speaking about the “Poppies” edit, Vito says: “I vividly remember buying the Buffy Saint-Marie album ‘Illuminations’ at a record store called Jerry’s in Pittsburgh. Jerry’s was a regular stop on tour where we’d usually spend a day buying and looking at records. When I found Illuminations I didn’t know anything about the album or much about Buffy Sainte-Marie but I liked the artwork and thought it looked like an interesting album so I bought it. It turned out to be a total gem. Poppies was always a standout track on the album, the vocal on Poppies is really beautiful and works seamlessly with the backing track. I’ve been meaning to rework it for years.”
