A Track A Day:
System Olympia
With the current circumstances and the weird, turbulent times all over the globe, we asked our friends to choose a favourite track or an album for these isolated days, and share it with us along with a photo. A track a day keeps the bad vibes away. Stay safe.
Today we welcome our beloved from British producer and DJ System Olympia. We’ve been fans of her NTS show over the past few years and her productions have been hitting the spot too. With dancefloors still seeming a long way off, her recent superb LP “Delta of Venus” on Glaswegian label Huntleys & Palmers full of feel-good synth, boogie and electro jams, have been keeping our spirits up during lockdown. System Olympia shares with us something special, Madcliff’s track “It Takes A Little Time”, taken from their rare 1977 self-titled disco-funk LP, the only album ever recorded by Madcliff.
In her own words: “Many years ago I fell asleep at a house party at someone’s house in Echo Park, LA. When I woke up in the morning, me and my boyfriend at the time borrowed DXJX’s car to go get breakfast. As we were driving half asleep, Ric pressed play on the car stereo and ‘It Takes A Little Time’ started playing.
The heartbreaking vocals, and the track almost always on the verge of distorting, along with the Cali sun and the palm trees all around on Sunset, and the feeling of inspiration and possibility that filled my days then – made that moment one I will never forget.”
