Following three excellent edit 12”s last year, Phil South’s Golf Channel label continues to pay homage to the iconic Mangiami restaurant, one of New York’s most creative nightspots in the last decade, with a new compilation called “Mangiami – La Compilation”. Translated literally as “Eat Me”, Gianfranco Costa’s Lower East Side Italian restaurant was a legendary hang out for the city’s underground cognoscenti like DJ Harvey, Tim Sweeney or Eric Duncan over a six year period after it opened in 2006.
The eight-track compilation will feature contributions from Mangiami’s friends and regulars, including Dedication, a project helmed by UK producer/DJ Felix Dickinson, Populette, Thugfucker, Nick Chacona, Alex From Tokyo & Bing Ji Ling, Totes Preesh, Golf Channel’s own The Loose Control Band, and disco specialist William Burnett under his Grackle alias. “The music is a lovely reflection of how the nights went down there, just happy, good time stuff – whether it’s the more relaxed or the more banging end of the spectrum – both are represented,” says Phil South. You can now stream Dedication’s track “Let Me Rock You”, an absolute peach of a tune, above.
“Mangiami – La Compilation” will arrive on October 23 on Golf Channel.
